從武俠、仙俠、歷史、穿越文中衍生出的網絡文學，現在已經是許多電視電影的劇本來源（《甄嬛傳》《琅琊榜》《延禧攻略》等等），改編後行銷歐美東南亞。
最近又多出了種田、職業或者是幾種混合等新類型，也新有了不少向高鐵、扶貧、非遺傳承等現實題材致敬的作品。
作協有網絡文學分會。中國網絡小說已成為傳說中的新四大國際文化現象之一。

來自西班牙的帥小夥Alemillach今年24歲，住在巴塞羅那，是一名電腦工程師。一直愛好文學，一直嘗試寫作，但總覺傳統寫作無法滿足他馳騁的想象力。

開始看英語翻譯的中國網絡小說之後，他覺得自己似乎找到了一種符合動漫遊戲愛好者思維的表達方式和平臺，於是開始動筆寫一部“融合了一些西方元素和中國元素”的小說。
問他為何用英語而不是母語創作呢？
他回答得相當實際：
Because of the visibility. There isn’t any platform like Webnovel focused in this kind of web novels in Spanish. Moreover, there are also more people who can read English than Spanish.因為能見度更高，平臺更好，目前還沒有一個像Webnovel這樣的西班牙語網絡小說平臺。再說了，世界上能看懂英語的人更多嘛。他的讀者遍佈美、德、東南亞等地，而一開始，他沒想太多，只是想寫好一部故事而已。
後來他也積極參與與讀者的互動，借鑑讀者的反饋，一天碼1500-1600詞英文，也就是每天1-2章的樣子，像中國網文作家一樣。
這位西班牙的青年說從網文獲得的收入比全職工作一個月還多（“more than a full-month job”）。

據2018年的中國官方數字，二十年來，中國的網絡文學發展迅猛，擁有1300餘萬名作者，1600多萬部作品，近4億讀者。
而創建於2017年5月的Webnovel，截至2019年3月，上線300餘部英文翻譯作品，擁有200餘譯者或譯者組，累計訪問用戶已超2000萬。不到兩年時間，已經孕育出了一定數量的原創英文作者，還有可能開放其他語種。
或許資深網文譯者，來自新加坡的溫宏文Jeremy Oon，筆名Cktalon，能用自身的體驗和經歷來解釋中國式網文魅力何在。
一開始是新鮮：
