“我不怕冷”不是I'm not afraid of cold，這些中式英語還在說？

下面有很多表達我們經常掛在嘴邊，也總能聽到，但其實卻是錯的！別不信！一起來看看！

1. 在我的印象中

( X ) in my impression

( √ ) under the impression

impression 是「印象、感覺」，但要描述「在我的印象中」，並不是用介詞in，而是要用“under” ，或是說I get/have the impression that ⋯⋯

一般印象 general impression

例句：

I was under the impression that you fall in love with a French, right?

在我印象中，你跟一個法國人在一起，對嗎？

2. 普普通通；還好

( X ) so-so

( √ ) all right/not too bad/OK

外國人很少用so-so 這個詞，在對話中，要儘量避免講出so-so，因為這個詞是指「馬馬虎虎」，代表你對正在談論的話題沒有什麼看法。

因此，想表達「還好」，就儘量使用all right/not too bad/OK。

例句：

A: Have you watched “The Avengers 4” already?

你看過《復仇者聯盟4》了嗎？

B: Yes! I just watched it with my boyfriend last night.

看過啦！我昨天晚上才跟我男友去看。

A: Oh, is it worth watching?

噢！推薦看嗎？

B: The movie was OK.

普普通通。

3. 機率很大

( X ) chances are big

( √ ) chances are high

中文會講機率很大或是機率很高，但在英文裡只有chances are high 的說法。

A: Chances are high that you won the lottery.

我覺得你中樂透的機率蠻大的。

B: Sure…… when pigs fly.

當然⋯⋯想得挺美的。

4. 我不怕冷

( X ) I'm not afraid of cold.

( √ ) The cold doesn't bother me.

afraid of 後面只能接具體的名詞，例如：I'm afraid of cockroach，而冷是一個抽象的概念，不能直接說I'm afraid of cold。

還記得電影《冰雪奇緣》主題曲裡的歌詞有唱到“The cold never bothered me anyway.” 就是這樣的用法！

5. 藥效退了

( X ) the drug effect disappear

( √ ) the drug effect wears off

我們把「藥效退了/ 消除」翻譯成英文，就會直覺翻成disappear。雖然disappear 並非語法錯誤的用法，但外國人一般不會這麼講。wear off 是指「逐漸消退、消逝」。

The effect of the painkiller began to wear off.

止痛藥藥效開始漸漸消退。

6. 價格適中的

( X ) the price is suitable

( √ ) the price is right/reasonable

suitable 是指「合適的、相配的」，最常見的用法是以否定的形式出現在告示或通知中，如：未滿十八歲不宜觀賞：Not suitable for minors under 18 years of age.

而要形容價格適中的話，我們會用right，或換個方式描述價錢合理：price is reasonable。

The food here is delicious and the price is reasonable.

這裡的食物很美味，價格也很親民。

7.下一張幻燈片

( X ) Go to the next ppt.

( O ) Go to the next slide.

雖然PowerPoint可以用ppt來簡稱，但一張一張的幻燈片，英文不會說ppt，而是會用「slide」這個詞。因此，要表示翻「下一張幻燈片」的時候，英文不會說Go to the next ppt，而是會說：Go to the next slide。例如：

例句：

This leads to my next point. Let's go to the next slide.

這引導出我的下一個論點。我們接著看下一張投影片吧。
