altogether相當於

1）completely, entirely, thoroughly, totally完全，全然，全部地——加強的意味

2）generally, all in all, on the whole總的說來，總而言之，總之——概括的語義

3）in total, all told總計，總共——該含義也可使用all together——數字的統計

all together

1）總共，相當於altogether，用於數字的統計（這往往是與altogether對比時所忽略的）；

2）同時，相當於at the same time；

3）每個人或每一件東西一起，相當於all at once, all in one place。

如：

five rooms altogether共計5個房間

five rooms all together5個房間在一起，或共計5個房間
