在英語中，表達部分否定的方式主要有三種：
1、Not與表示“全體”或“完全”意義詞連用。
這樣的單詞如all（所有的）, everyone（每個人），everything（每件事），everybody（每個人），each（每一個），both（兩個都）, always（總是）, wholly（全部）, entirely（完全地）, altogether（完全地）, 等等。當它們與否定詞not連用時，並非表示全部否定，而是表示部分否定。如：
（1）All of them don’t want to go there. 他們並不是都想去那裡。（部分否定）
比較：None of them wants to go there. 他們沒人想要去那裡。（完全否定）
（2）Not both children are clever. 兩個孩子並不都聰明。（部分否定）
比較：Neither of the children are clever. 兩個孩子都不聰明。（完全否定）
（3）Everyone doesn’t have such a chance. 並不是每個人都有這樣的機會。（部分否定）
比較：No one has such a chance. 沒人會有這樣的機會。（完全否定）
（4）I can’t catch everything in the book. 我沒有完全掌握書中的內容。（部分否定）
比較：I can catch nothing in the book. 我完全不能掌握這本書的內容。（完全否定）
（5）He is not always so happy. 他並不是一直這樣開心。（部分否定）
比較：He is never so happy. 他從來不會這樣開心。（完全否定）
（6）Both Tom and Mike can’t speak Chinese. 湯姆和邁克並非都會說漢語。（部分否定）
比較：Neither Tom and Mike can speak Chinese. 湯姆和邁克都不會說漢語。（完全否定）
特別提醒：這一類表“全部”意義的詞，如果後面接上由“dis-”、“un-”、“-less”等表否定意義的詞綴構成的詞時，表完全否定，而不是部分否定。如：
（8）Every one of them dislike apples. 他們中的每一個人都不喜歡蘋果。（完全否定）
（9）Each of the twins is unfriendly. 這對雙胞胎兩個人都不友好。（完全否定）
（10）All of these tools are useless. 所有這些工具都沒有用。（完全否定）
2.運用 not…and…結構
（11）She can’t sing and dance. 她並非既會唱歌又會跳舞。 （部分否定）
比較：She can’t sing or dance. 她既不會唱歌，也不會跳舞。（完全否定）
3. 運用特殊表單詞如seldom（很少）, hardly（幾乎不）, little（幾乎沒有）,few(幾乎沒有) ，等等。
（12）He seldom asks for leave. 他很少請假。（部分否定）
比較：He never asks for leave. 他從來不請假。（完全否定）
（13）It hardly ever snows in Guangdong. 廣東極少下雪。 （部分否定）
比較：It never snows in Guangdong. 廣東從來不下雪。（完全否定）
（14）We know few of them. 他們當中我們不認識幾個人。（部分否定）
比較：We know none of them. 他們中的人我們都不認識。（完全否定）
（15）There is little ink in the bottle. 瓶裡幾乎沒有墨水。（部分否定）
比較：There is no ink in the bottle. 瓶裡沒有墨水。（完全否定）
