雖然英語連接詞while有很多含義，但大部分學生只是在表達“當...的時候”，才使用while。

但在雅思英語寫作中，while最常用的含義卻是另外2個含義。

1. while = although，多用於表達觀點。
2. while = but，多用於比較不同點。

while = although, 表達觀點

Most people have forgotten the meaning behind traditional or religious festivals; during festival periods, people nowadays only want to enjoy themselves. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

大部分人忘記了傳統或宗教節日背後的意義。在節日期間，人們現在只希望自己玩的開心。你同意，還是不同意這一觀點？

針對上述的雅思寫作真題，我們可以使用while引出如下觀點：

While I agree that enjoyment seems to be the priority（優先權） during festival times, I do not agree that people have forgotten what these festivals mean.

雖然我同意在節假日期間，玩的開心已成為人們的首要追求，但我並不認為人們已經忘記了節日背後的意義。

while = but, 表示比較

In 2010, 73% of mobile phone owners used their phones to search the Internet, while 41% of users played games and only 26% of people played music on their phones.

2010年，73%的手機用戶使用手機上網搜索，而只有41%的用戶玩遊戲，26%的人聽音樂。

從上面的例子可以看出，while在雅思大作文中用於表達觀點，在小作文中用於比較不同的數據。
