A French court ruled Tuesday that a French celebrity magazine must pay 100,000 euros in damages to Britain's Prince William and his wife Kate over topless photos of the duchess published in 2012.
The court also ordered Closer magazine's editor Laurence Pieau and publisher Ernesto Mauri to each pay 45,000 euros in fines, the maximum possible.
The couple had sought 1.5 million euros in damages and interest, but said they were "pleased" with the verdicts after a "serious breach of privacy."
"They wished to make the point strongly that this kind of unjustified intrusion should not happen," said a statement issued by a spokesperson.
The grainy snaps of Kate Middleton sunbathing in a bikini bottom were taken while she was on holiday in September 2012 in the south of France with her husband, the second in line to the British throne.

Madonna has left the United States and seems pretty content with her decision. The singer recently posted on her Instagram account that she has moved to Portugal.
"The energy of Portugal is so inspiring," Madonna wrote. "I feel very creative and alive here and I look forward to working on my film LOVED and making New Music!!"
Madonna used a photo of baskets hanging from a kitchen ceiling to further express her joy. "I used to be a basket case but now I Live in Lisbon," she wrote.

曾執導過《侏羅紀世界》的科林•特萊沃若近日傳出了不再擔任《星球大戰9》導演的消息，原因是他和盧卡斯影業理念上存在分歧。《星戰9》有望由黛西•雷德利與約翰•波耶加主演，預計將於2019年5月上映。
不過這也不是星戰系列第一次換導演了，就在不到3個月前，《星球大戰韓•索羅外傳》導演菲爾•羅德和克里斯托弗•米勒與該片也以分手告終，並由朗•霍華德接替。

Director Colin Trevorrow has dropped out of Star Wars: Episode IX because he and Lucasfilm have differing "visions".
Episode IX is expected to star Daisy Ridley and John Boyega and is due out in May 2019. Lucasfilm will now seek a replacement for Trevorrow, who is best known for directing Jurassic World.
His departure comes less than three months after a Han Solo spin-off film also lost its directors.
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller were replaced by Ron Howard.
On Tuesday, a statement on the Star Wars website said: "Lucasfilm and Colin Trevorrow have mutually chosen to part ways on Star Wars: Episode IX.
