這本雜誌曝光了Eminem 種族歧視言論的錄音

The Source，涵蓋Hip-Hop、政治、文化等領域的美國雜誌，成立於1988年，是全球運營時間最長久的說唱期刊。

David Mays是一名哈佛的學生，他召集三位同學一起創辦了The Source，並在1990年將辦公地點遷至紐約。

為了表彰貢獻傑出的Hip-Hop、R&B的藝術家們，雜誌開始舉辦每年一度的頒獎典禮——The Source Awards

1995年舉辦的The Source Awards上，西海岸唱片公司Death Row的CEO Suge Knight在舞臺上公然嘲笑東海岸唱片公司Bad Boy的CEO Puff Daddy（為了避免讀者以為打錯字，在此聲明，Puff Daddy、P. Diddy、Sean John Combs都是他用過的名字）。這件事也是90年代東西海岸發生矛盾的其中一個原因。

2003年，The Source公佈了一段關於種族歧視的錄音——白人說唱歌手Eminem在錄音中說道："Black girls and white girls just don't mix because black girls are dumb and white girls are good chicks,"

黑人女孩和白人女孩不會玩到一塊兒，因為黑人女孩是dumb（可理解為在政治上沒有發言權），白人女孩兒都是好姑娘。

Eminem承認這段話是他在早期（大概1993年左右）的時候說過，並解釋當時因為被一位非裔美國人女孩甩了，才發出這種憤怒、愚蠢的言論。

除了發佈各種Hip-Hop資訊，舉辦The Source Awards，該雜誌還有一個專門為Hip-Hop音樂專輯評分的項目——The Source's Five-Mic albums
