——if（如果）所引導的過去時間的條件從句，但實際的應用例句也有所出現。
——對此我們熟悉不多，下面列舉一些實例，希望有益於各位同道。
《英語語法大全》第439頁條件從句
條件從句用於：談論現在或過去有時存在的情況
If I saw him in the street, he’djust say ‘Good morning’.
《當代高級英語語法》（徐廣聯主編）第958頁（3）
if表示“每當…就”，相當於when, whenever, 表示習慣的或必然的情況，句中不用情態動詞。
If he was tired, he had a short rest. 每當累了，他就休息一會兒。
《英語語法大全》第441頁8.30
談論過去發生的事情時，條件從句用簡單過去時或過去進行時，主句用簡單過去時或情態動詞。
They sat on the grass if it was fine.
If it was raining, we usually stayed indoors.
If they wanted to go out, they could always count on me to stay with the baby.
Often I could not fall asleep unless I exercised to the point of exhaustion.
If anyone came, they’d say ‘How are you?’

在一個包含有真實條件狀語從句和主句的條件句中，有一些真實條件狀語從句的謂語動詞是過去一般時，主句中的謂語動詞應當是什麼時態，可以根據句子的意思來確定。例如：
1.If he spokefluent English, he surelywas majoring in it at college.
如果他英語說得流利，他讀大學時肯定是專攻英語。
2.If he saidhe was good at English, he tolda lie.
如果他說他英語很好，那就是撒謊。
3.If he brokea counter pane of glass, he will be paying for it tomorrow morning.
如果他真的打破了一塊貨櫃玻璃，明天早上他賠。
4.If he hada stethoscope hung on his neck, he must bea doctor.
如果他頸上真的掛有一個聽診器，他一定是個醫生。
5.If his ankle waswounded, he walkswith a limp.
如果他的踝骨真的受了傷，他走起路來會一瘸一拐。
6.If I sawhim, I must have seen him in a latrine.
如果我碰見過他，那就在在一個公共場所裡碰見過他。
7.If he sentthe letter to me last Wednesday, why have not I received it by now?
如果上個星期三他把信寄給我了，為什麼到現在我還不曾收到？
如同我們高中英語中的非真實條件從句（即虛擬條件句）所常說的：
在錯綜時間的虛擬語氣中的主句與從句“該用什麼時態，就使用什麼時態”一樣，
——“錯綜時間”的真實條件狀語從句也是如此。
