有一天,公雞和驢子生活在一起。飢餓的獅子來侵害驢子,公雞一叫,獅子害怕雞叫,轉身逃之夭夭。驢子見獅子連雞叫都害怕,心想獅子沒有什麼了不起,便立即跑去追趕獅子。他追到遠處,公雞的叫聲聽不到了,獅子猛然轉過身來,把他吃了。驢子臨死時嘆道:“我真是不幸啊!我真愚蠢啊!我並不是競爭對手,為什麼還要去參加戰鬥呢?”
這故事說明,不要輕敵,要知道自己有多大能耐,不要在強大的對手面前逞能。
