Silicon Valley is a well-known place where agglomerates a hefty amount of high-tech giants. They are identified as a core force that impact or even change the trend of world’s science and technology. Today, Silicon Valley has outgrown the scope of semiconductor industry and become a synonym for technological renovation and application.
硅谷的誕生和斯坦福大學的發展有著直接的聯繫。二戰後，斯坦福大學將其校園的一部分開闢為工業園以吸引高科技人才來此創業，旨在發展無線通訊和半導體技術。斯坦福鼓勵大學教授和學生進入工業園創業，並引入風險投資幫助創業者解決資金問題。
The emergence of Silicon Valley has a direct relation with the growth of Stanford University. After World War II, Stanford unprecedentedly planned part of its campus as an industrial park to attract high-tech talents to start business, aiming to develop wireless communication and semiconductor technology. Stanford emboldened professors and students to start their own business in the park and ushered in venture capital to mitigate beleaguered financial condition of entrepreneurs.

Stanford University is established by the former California governor Leland Stanford to commemorate his son who died at his early age and the university is named after his son’s name. The buildings in Stanford are all decorated with red-colored roofs and yellow-painted walls since the father hopes his son can see this university which is replete with his love from the heaven.

The buildings are whole Spanish style. The campus reflects the concept of the design, symmetric layout, symmetric architecture and explicit functionality. Along the Palm Drive as axis and with Main Quad complex as the center, the northwestern area of the campus is the medical school and Stanford shopping center, and in the west locate the engineering school. Golf course and polo fields, symbols of wealth, as well as business offices housing 1/3 of American venture capitals sit in the southwestern campus.

The south of the campus sits hiking area and undergraduate dormitories. The community of faculty and staff is located in the beautiful southeastern side ofthe university. The east side of the campus stands administrative offices and graduate dormitories. The northeastern part of the campus is the sports center that can hold the world-class sports games. The WTA Premier the Bank of the West Classic is held at Stanford’s tennis stadium.
