1.another

泛指（指三者或三者以上中的）另一個,既可作代詞又可作形容詞.

做代詞時如：

I have finished this book,please give me another.

做形容詞：

I will be back in another ten days

2.other

其他的,另外的,泛指另一個另一些.

作定語時,常與可數名詞複數連用,如

But other creditors have refused the terms,

但如果前面有the,some,any,each,every及形容詞性物主代詞時,可與可數名詞單數連用,如

every other day

3.others

泛指別的

其他人是other的複數形式.相當於other加可數名詞複數 如：

she has more concern for others than for herself.

4.,the other

可作代詞也可作形容詞,表（兩者中的）另一個,

常用於one..the other..的句型中,如

she has two children,one is a boy,the other is a girl 5.the others是the other 的複數形式,特指某一範圍內“全部或其餘的人或物”,

只作代詞用,相當於the other 加可數名詞複數,如

Four of them are in the classroom,what about the others

other

可作形容詞或代詞，做形容詞時，意思是“別的，其他”，泛指“其他的（人或物）”。

如：

Do you have any other question(s)? 你還有其他問題嗎？　　

Ask some other people. 問問別人吧！　　

Putit in your other hand. 把它放在你另一隻手裡。

The other　　

指兩個人或物中的一個時，只能用the other，不能用another，此時的other作代詞。

如：　

He has two daughters. One is a nurse, the other is aworker. 他有兩個女兒，一個是護士，另一個是工人。　　

The other後可加單數名詞，也可加複數名詞，此時的other作形容詞。

如：　　

Onthe other side of the street，there is a tall tree. 在街道的另一邊，有一棵大樹。　　

Mary is much taller than the other girls. 瑪麗比其他的女孩高得多。　　

He lives on the other side of the river. 他住在河的對岸。

Others　　

是other的複數形式，泛指“另外幾個”，“其餘的”。在句中可作主語、賓語。

如：　　

Some of us like singing and dancing, others go in for sports. 我們一些人喜歡唱歌和跳舞，其餘的從事體育活動。　　

Give me some others, please. 請給我別的東西吧！　　

There are no others. 沒有別的了。

The others　　

意思是“其他東西，其餘的人”。特指某一範圍內的“其他的（人或物）”。是the other的複數形式。

如：　　

Two boys will go to the zoo, and the others will stay at home. 兩個男孩將去動物園，其餘的留在家裡。

Another　

既可作形容詞，也可作代詞，只能用於三個或更多的人或物，泛指同類事物中的三者或三者以上的“另一個”，只能代替或修飾單數可數名詞。如：　　

I don’t like this one. Please show me another. 我不喜歡這一個，請給我看看另一個。　　

I have three daughters. One is a nurse, another is a teacher and another is a worker. 我有三個女兒。一個是護士，另一個是教師，還有一個是工人。

another/other與數詞的搭配關係

二者都能與數詞連用，但語序和意思上有差別。

詞序上：數詞要放在another後面，other的前面。

即兩種結構：

another+數詞+複數名詞、

數詞+other+複數名詞

語義上：“another+數詞+複數名詞”的基本意思是“在原有基礎上的一個延續”，強調數量的積累；

“數詞+other+複數名詞”只是單純地表示“其他的，另外的”，強調類別的不一樣，此時的other主要起區別作用，即將其後所修飾的人或事物與前面提及的相同人或事物區別開來。

We will stay here for another three days.

我們要在這裡再呆三天。（已經呆過一段時間了）

I could go on for another two hours.

我再講兩個小時都講不完。（已經講了一段時間了）

I am always busy from Monday to Thursday, but I can come on three other days.

我一般週一到週四都很忙，但是我其他三天能來。（區別於週一到週四這四天）

Mary rents a house with three other girls.

瑪麗和另外3位姑娘合租一幢房子。（區別於瑪麗）

最後劃重點

詞法與句法，很有規律，務必批發學習，舉一反三。千萬不要：支離破碎，攻其一點，不及其餘。本題屬於極重要的限定詞問題。

冠詞，是一種特殊形容詞/修飾語。類似冠詞的修飾語(modifiers)叫限定詞(determiners)，也叫“廣義冠詞”。諸如：a/an, the, this, these, that, those, such, another, other, the other, my, our, several,few, a few, some, any, some other, any other, little, a little, several of the,much,more, most, the most, much more,one, two, the first, the second, both, all, the both, the two, all the ,the whole, one of the, ......。可分兩大類，不定限定詞與特定限定詞。

現在回答本題。①another=an/one+other：字面：一個其它的，其它一個，另一個。它屬於不定限定詞，與one配合使用。例如：I have two friends. One is a teacher, another is a doctor我有兩友。一個是教師，另一個是醫生。注意：究竟是什麼教師與醫生，不確定。

②the other，是一個特定限定詞，與不定限定詞one配用，特指其餘的，或單數或複數。例如：I have five friends. One is a teacher, the other(friends)are doctors我有五友。一個是教師，其餘的是醫生。

③other，屬於不定限定詞，很少單獨使用，通常與不定限定詞some,any配用：Some people live but have been dead in soul.Some other people have been dead but always live.有些人活著但靈魂已死，另一些人死了但靈魂永遠活著。 Any other students have question ?還有哪些別的同學有疑問？注意：通常any用於疑問、否定、條件句，而some用於肯定句。

④others，這不是限定詞，而是省略中心詞的簡約性的代詞。例如：Some workers are active. Others(=Other workers) are not.有些員工很活潑，另些員工不活潑。類似的還有：their[a]→theirs[pron]，your[a]→yours[pron]，our→ours，進步還有：material→materials，statistic統計的→statistics統計學, 統計事項。
